“I think he’s a confused individual. He doesn’t know what the hell he can expect from me. That type of guy is kind of that one where you really don’t understand it. He texted me on Father’s Day and it said maybe Bobby Green. I already knew I had a contact. Before, we had a same sponsor from King of the Cage a long time ago I met him and he was with this lady, had no animosity, it was cool and say what’s up. And even after his Lando Vannata fight, he comes back and smiling at me, like good job when I was about ready to walk out of mine. Then, he texted me on Father’s Day when I’m enjoying my family time saying, ‘hey, is this El Cucuy?’ ‘Happy Father’s Day,’ I told him. I already knew it was him and then he said beforehand I texted him. He texted me twice more and he said, ‘yo, this is your opponent.’ I already knew. Afterwards, he said Happy Father’s Day.Tony Ferguson revealed what Bobby Green texted him ahead of their upcoming fight at UFC 291 and ruled out the possibility of retirement in the near future.Regardless, Ferguson has no plans to step away any time soon and aims to win the title after winning five fights.

Tony Ferguson will mark his return to action against Bobby Green at UFC 291 on Saturday, July 29 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He will look to get back to winning ways and inch closer to title contention.
During the pre-fight press conference for UFC 291, Tony Ferguson opened up on the messages he received from Bobby Green ahead of their fight.

Ferguson admitted not taking the last two fights seriously & dismissed talks of retirement

“I asked for a fight. I want to get back into it wholeheartedly. The last couple of fights, I haven’t really been in it. I’m going to be real with you guys, trying to impress you f**kers is not my forte. I’m not trying to do that. When we were preparing for Li, I was eating slushies that week. We had Nate, Nate was hard to take serious. I don’t want to lose but I’m going to be real like here take your paper, get the f**k out of here, and go make some money. Here, slap on your a** you can go over there because you obviously don’t want to be here.”

‘El Cucuy’ confessed he did not give his best efforts in his last two outings and explained why.

“I’m going to be done when I want to be done but I also have to do what I have to do in order to get to where I want to get. Five fights and a title.”

In May 2020, Justin Gaethje snapped Ferguson’s winning run in brutal fashion at UFC 249. Ferguson hit a skid in his professional career that saw him drop five bouts, including his latest showing against Nate Diaz at UFC 279 last September.

“Now, I’m not going to call him a b***h a** but I just saw him in the lobby not too long ago. Mr. Flashy, it’s cool, it’s your thing, it’s your key, I get you. When he saw me, he looked like he saw the fourth Horseman of death. It’s kind of f**king crazy.”
