Bellator lightweight mixed martial arts fighter Cris Lencioni is reported to be in intensive care in the hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest in the gym on June 8. According to a video statement posted by Lencioni’s long time training partner, Chael Sonnen, Lencioni, 28, was in a normal MMA sparring session when he lost consciousness for no apparent reason.

Lencioni is 11-3 as a professional having won his last four bouts. His last fight came in April when he defeated Blake Smith by submission at Bellator 294. He was scheduled to fight James Gallagher in August, though that match now seems in doubt. Though there has been speculation about Lencioni’s condition on social media, his mother-in-law, Angela Hibbard, posted to a GoFundMe page on Monday that he had, indeed, suffered a cardiac arrest. Lencioni’s wife, Marca, then posted to his Instagram page saying his fellow fighters immediately called 911 and cared for him until paramedics arrived.
